Prax Lindsey Refinery Completes Major Turnaround And Inspection

PRAX LINDSEY OIL REFINERY T&I

The team at Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery has completed a scheduled Turnaround and Inspection (T&I) that took place earlier this year.  This was a major period of maintenance for the refinery, with the production units completely shutdown to allow maintenance, inspections, and repairs to be carried out.  This T&I is the largest such event that the refinery has undertaken since it was acquired by the Prax Group in 2021.

This event – significantly larger in scale compared to previous periods of maintenance – was vital for maintaining the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our operations, and involved hundreds of meticulously planned work packages, prepared over months leading up to the start of the T&I.  Even six months before the T&I commenced, the detailed process map was already at an astonishing length of over four metres long! However, this reflected the complexity of the project, and highlighted the necessity for an efficient, streamlined workflow.

So, do you know how much work goes into a T&I?  During the 2024 T&I at the refinery, our employees and contractors worked 1.2 million hours.  This is equivalent to 615 people working a full year at 37.5 hours a week!

A more abstract fact to frame the number of hours worked is that humans have an average walking speed of 5 kilometres an hour.  If 1.2 million hours were translated into distance, the teams would have walked 6 million kilometres.  The Moon is 384,400 kilometres away, so this is equivalent to walking to the Moon and back nearly 8 times!
