The Prax Group’s Upstream Team Marks A Major Milestone

UPSTREAM TEAM – Lancaster Oil Production

The Prax Group’s Upstream team has achieved a major milestone this year.  On Valentine’s Day, the team produced the 20 millionth barrel from the Lancaster field.

This oil began its journey 150 million years ago during the Jurassic period, originating as marine algae and plankton that settled on the deep ocean floor.  Over time, it was buried and subjected to immense pressure, which transformed it into light oil.  This oil eventually migrated to the Rona Ridge structure and found its home in the fractured basement reservoir of the Lancaster field, located within one of the oldest rock formations in Scotland, dating back over a billion years to the Pre-Cambrian era.

Since Lancaster production began in 2019, the oil has slowly moved toward the producing P6 Lancaster well.  On 14th February, the 20 millionth barrel entered the well, where it spent 32 minutes in the production tubing and subsea flowline system before reaching the FPSO (floating production and storage vessel).  It then spent nearly two hours in the processing facility before being stored in the Aoka Mizu’s tanks for 12 days.  The oil was subsequently part of the asset’s 43rd offload and transported to the Altera Wave oil tanker.  The tanker then set off on a short journey to the Netherlands, where the oil was offloaded into refinery tanks and processed into a range of different products.
